He and Charlotte served on a mission trip to Chile. Lloyd had a life long interest in travel. Kathy married Pat Luckino and when grandsons Michael and Matthew came along Lloyd was the inventor of many family driving trips and a vacation on a house boat. Daughter Linda received her Doctorate in Psychology and married David Clark. Eventually they graduated to Alapulco and family cruises. Family time was very important to Lloyd and the family started taking winter vacations to Florida. They had two daughters Kathryn or Kathy and Linda. Charlotte served as the backbone of the home front while Lloyd put in long hours at work. Although Lloyd derived great satisfaction from his work, his greatest joy was his family.

He once said that every good thing he had came from concrete. He kept reading about the industry and its changes and improvements right up to the time of his death. Lloyd often experiment different finishes and shapes in concrete. His biggest achievement was Chene Park a music venue on the River built entirely of concrete. He did the 'Land of Boats,' a play area designed by sculpter Vito Acconci for the St. He built a specially designed fountain at Orchestra Hall and another fountain in Mt. He developed a reputation for doing types of specialty concrete work. He did concrete work for all the Chateau Estates Mobile Home Parks. He did work for many years at Wayne State University and Harper Hospital. Lloyd took the business from doing individual sidewalks and driveways to city contracts for sidewalks all over the Metropolitan Detroit area.

His father had a disabling stroke in the late 1950's and died from complications in 1958. After his discharge Lloyd rejoined his father's business, assuming more and more responsibility. He was promoted to Corporal and received a Medal of Commendation for rescuing a wounded comrade who had fallen off the trail and was unnoticed by the rest of the unit. Lloyd was shipped out to serve in the 5th Regimental Combat Team in the area of Korea known as the 'Punch Bowl.' He served in active battle and became the radio man for his unit. He was her loving husband for 51 years until she passed away in 2003. On leave, he came home to marry Charlotte Winsiarski.

He started at the young age of 10 by carrying water for the men and straightening nails! He had his drivers license by the age of 14 and drove both trucks and equipment. He followed in his father's footsteps by joining in the family business, Alva L. James (Jeanne) Greer, Robert (Wilma) Greer, Bonnie Guiliani and the late Harold and John Greer. (David) Greer-Clark of Troy, Michigan 2 Grandsons, Michael (Joy) Luckino of Shelby Township, Michigan and Matthew Luckino of Clinton Township, Michigan. (Patrick) Luckino of Clinton Township, Michigan and Linda L. He was predeceased by his older brother Harold and younger brother He is survived by his Wife, Linda Jane Greer (nee: Merrifield) of Clinton Township 2 Daughters, Kathryn A. He was the third child and second son of Alva Lee and Lillian May Greer (nee: Weaver).

Lloyd, as he was known to everyone, was born in Detroit October 29, 1930. Alva 'Lloyd' passed away on Saturday, Novemat Select Specialty Hospital - Macomb County in Mount Clemens, Michigan.
